The Artist
For more than four decades, Sandra Jones Campbell has explored the human experience through richly imagined figurative paintings that are at once intimate, theatrical, and deeply observant.
Influenced by artists including Max Beckmann, George Grosz, and Otto Dix, Campbell has developed a distinctive narrative voice of her own. Her paintings capture moments of human interaction—sometimes humorous, sometimes mysterious, often psychologically revealing—balancing warmth, wit, elegance, and compassion.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas and paper, Campbell creates scenes populated by characters who seem caught in the middle of a story. Through gesture, expression, color, and composition, she invites the viewer to imagine what has just happened—or what might happen next.
Over the course of her career, Campbell has been featured in more than 35 one- and two-person exhibitions, as well as museum and invitational exhibitions throughout California, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Arizona.
Represented by Pacific Edge Gallery in Laguna Beach since 1996, her work has also been exhibited at the Festival of Arts and featured in numerous publications. Her paintings are held in public, corporate, hospitality, and private collections throughout the United States and internationally.
Sandra Jones Campbell continues to paint from her California studio, observing the endlessly fascinating theater of everyday life and transforming those observations into stories on canvas.

1967–1969
Foundations in Art & Cultural Anthropology
Sandra studied Art & Cultural Anthropology at the University of Maryland in Istanbul, followed by Fine Arts studies at the University of Oregon—forming the foundation for her lifelong exploration of the human experience through painting.
1980
Professional Career Begins
Sandra launched her professional career by opening the Sandra J. Campbell Gallery & Design Studio while also serving as an Artist in Residence and educator with the Oregon Arts Commission.
1984–Present
A Lifetime Studio Practice
Sandra established her full-time studio practice, creating original paintings that have been collected and exhibited for more than four decades.
1996–Present

Sandra has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Pacific Edge Gallery, one of Southern California's premier fine art galleries, where her work continues to be represented.
